When Did You Disappear? Why Women Over 40 Deserve to Be Photographed
When did you disappear?
Why women over 40 deserve to be photographed, and why these portraits are not about vanity, but legacy.
Not physically. But you. The woman who once had dreams just for herself. The woman who laughed without worrying about what everyone else needed first. The woman who existed beyond the titles she carries every day.
You became everything to everyone
Somewhere along the way, life happened. You became
a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a caregiver, a professional, a friend.
You became everything to everyone. And somehow, you stopped being everything to yourself.
Every day you give a little more of yourself away. You carry invisible loads. You celebrate everyone else’s milestones while quietly convincing yourself that yours aren’t important enough.
You tell yourself you’ll take care of yourself later. When the kids are older. When work slows down. When you lose the weight. When you have more confidence. When life is less busy.
But “later” has a way of becoming years.
“Why would anyone want photos of me?”
When I ask women if they would like to be photographed, I almost always hear the same answer. Why would anyone want photos of me? Or, What would I even do with pictures of myself?
Here is what I want you to know.
These portraits are not for your vanity. They are for your legacy.
They are for the woman who has survived heartbreak, celebrated victories, carried impossible burdens, loved fiercely, started over, kept going, and never gave herself enough credit. They are proof that you existed not only for everyone else, but for yourself.
Why I created the 40 Over 40 Project
That is why I created the 40 Over 40 Project, a fine art portrait experience for women over 40 in the Austin and San Antonio area.
This isn’t about looking younger. It isn’t about pretending to be someone you’re not. It isn’t about perfect hair, the perfect body, or the perfect outfit.
It’s about discovering you. The woman behind every title.
What happens during a 40 Over 40 portrait session
We talk about your story
Before your session, we sit down together. How do you see yourself? How do you want to be remembered? What kind of woman looks back at you in the mirror?
Hair & makeup
A talented hair and makeup artist helps you feel pampered and beautiful, whether you want to look like yourself on your best day or step outside your comfort zone.
Wardrobe & artistic sets
I style you with carefully chosen wardrobe pieces, jewelry, and sets created just for you. Studio wardrobe is available in a variety of sizes.
A guided photoshoot
You never have to know how to pose. I direct you every step of the way, so you can simply be present.
Your portrait reveal
When you see your portraits for the first time, I hope you see what everyone else has seen all along: a woman who is strong, beautiful, resilient and worthy.
A fine art portrait to keep
You leave with more than photographs: a matted fine art print, and a VIP ticket to the gala celebrating every woman in the project.
A portrait made to be held
Every detail is designed to celebrate who you are today, not who you used to be or who you think you should become.
That is also why I believe in printing. A portrait on a screen gets scrolled past. A portrait on your wall, or in a folio box on your coffee table, becomes part of your family’s story. Clients can choose from matted fine art prints, metal prints, canvases and handcrafted folio boxes. You can see them all on my wall art page.
One day, someone you love will hold your portrait in their hands. Make sure they see the incredible woman you truly are.
For once, stop living in yesterday’s regrets or tomorrow’s worries. Choose today. Choose yourself.
